Snow
“Snow” speaks to me in frigid whisper…
Sprinkling its magic in my hair,
upon my nose, upon my lips
Then lingers between each eyelash;
And with moistened baby steps,
it softly gallops across my eyelid
Until I blink, as it melts away so silently
Leaving behind a single “snow print”
“Snow” speaks to me in frigid whisper…
As I sit by my window and stare into the day
I watch it dance in wind-blown splendor
I watch it blanket the city sidewalks
and dress the naked trees in winter white
I smile as it rests its magic flakes upon my windowsill
Ready to nap through an evening freeze
Taking its last wind-blown triumph
“Snow” speaks to me in frigid whisper…
It tells me tales from long ago
Where children once made snow angels
and animals frolicked in its sparkling glow
Where it decorated the rooftops
of fine homes that kept the porch lights on
Where lone snowmen, like frozen statues
wore stylish top hats; and guarded every lawn
“Snow” speaks to me in frigid whisper…
and entrusts me with a secret
I can see a tear in every snowflake
and a bit of pain in every snowfall
“Snow” begs to stay for longer than a season
Fearful from the warmth of Spring
It plans to stick around with treasured reason
Yet Mother Nature flies in upon new wing
“Snow” speaks to me in frigid whisper…
This time the voice quite faint and low
We sulk in unison as we both know
our time is limited and “Snow” must go
But “Snow” left me with its frigid whisper
and I left “Snow” with a winter dream
That I will wait for its return
until we meet again through Nature’s Scheme
