 Seasons

Old photographs; a faded smile

Echoes of laughter I have not heard in a while

Wild wicked winds upon Winter’s wings

Blinding snowstorms; yet an old heart sings

Aged images within the mirror’s light

Time waves goodbye; a past out of sight

A Season of warmth lost in cold memory

Wound tightly in tears and sad mystery

A thought of what once was, can no longer be

A soul crying out as Winter must flee

Spring peeked through my window

Like a child on the run

I captured it nimbly

While it followed the sun

Both were quite welcome in my silent home

Its Seasonal breath assured me I was no longer alone

It whispered of days that were kind to my heart

Before “new” became “old”, and all fell apart

Soon Spring had to flee with no warning at all

A goodbye was in order; a tear destined to fall

Hence Summer rode in on golden hue

Floral tapestries blessed every garden anew

Hearts were in sync, to the beat of sweet song

A Season, a Savior, a Friend came along

All was at peace; both mind and heart

Yet I knew it would end; Summer was far too smart

It had to go, it was perfectly planned

The one great miracle in Mother Nature’s land

So again I braced myself for another goodbye

Alone again; a glass of wine and a sigh

…Hark! I heard her, Autumn knocked at my door!

She breezed right past me, and pranced ‘cross my floor

I was elated to know she would stay for awhile

I had extra bedrooms to share, and offered a smile

“Seasons” must come; “Seasons” must go

Emotions play wildly in “their” phenomenal glow

We are up, we are down; we are lost, we are found

We are happy, we are sad; often times in faint sound

As we anticipate the horror of another goodbye

When Autumn flees toward Winter – So far, yet nearby…

NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR:

“Seasons” come and “Seasons” go, just as our emotions do. “Seasons” change, evolve, die off, are reborn - just as time and life, while we move along on the same cycle.  Mother Nature’s magic lives through the Four Seasons of Winter, Spring, Summer and Autumn. Her magic and mystery run parallel to our existence.
