Table Lamps - Let the Light Shine

Good Day All:

Just wanted to share a photo of this table lamp (bought two of them at "Wayfair" online). I fell in love with these lamps as I kept looking at them online for about a week, until I decided that they should be mine - so I ordered them. They found a home in my living room and I am glad they did, because they are stunning to me. They add a touch of romance with a hint of the Victorian era, which I find absolutely intriguing.

 

SO I SAY:

"Let the Light Shine"

(A Victorian Lamplight)

 

A Lamplight glows

A Lamplight speaks

It tells a tale of romance

It lights up a room with love

Victorian-era essence

Casts its glow from long ago

Shadows of the past

Visits in the Present

Taking a seat in my welcoming home

Transcending time forever

Telling the Secrets generations kept hidden

Some were quite endearing

While others sadly forbidden

Its Lamplight lives on

Nurtured by spirits of the past

Existing by lives of the present

Oblivious to a new future

While gracing this lovely abode

It has seen life, death, joy and love

Peace, hope; prayers from up above

With flickering stare and eternal light

It comforts us from morning ‘til night

It has wiped away our tears

It has stripped away our fears

It has laughed as loud as I

It has separated truth from lie

It has blanketed us on a winter’s night

When we felt cold and full of fright

It shielded us from thrashing winds outside

And flickered a smile from our table with pride

It hears our conversations

With family and friends upon the sofa

Some words are harsh, many are kind

My lamplight knows what was on our mind

It understands the human way

It shares our lives every day

It never judges or turns its back

Always filled with patience

A virtue we humans sometimes lack

...Yesterday, Today or Tomorrow

History will come and go

New faces will make their entrance

Greeted by the mystical glow

of a stately Victorian Table Lamp

…One I will forever be honored to know!

 

BIKE STATION ON MANHATTAN AVENUE BETWEEN AINSLIE AND DEVOE STREET

The NYC Bike Share Program is causing chaos in NYC, especially in front of residential properties. A Bike Station has been installed on our stretch of Manhattan Avenue, between Ainslie and Devoe Streets, Brooklyn, NY, going across/in front of four properties, including mine. We have lost 100 plus feet of much needed and much used parking space.

This insane plan is a danger for elders who cannot safely walk from their front doors (and vice versa) to waiting cars, cabs or access-a-ride without navigating in between and/or around these bikes. 

All residents on these four properties are blocked from immediate access to their street, and the NYPD, FDNY and EMS will have to navigate around this bike station in order to get to these residents in an emergency.

What about furniture and appliance deliveries? Sidewalk repairs/construction/cement trucks - no access to the sidewalk. We can no longer hook up a garden hose to wash our cars in front of our homes. What about snow removal? No room to push the snow into the street.

We now have parking and safety issues; garbage issues in and around the bikes and bike station; noise issues as the bikes are removed and put back on the bike racks; The constant clanging of bikes, especially at night, while we are sleeping, and right in front of our bedroom windows, is causing a noise issue way beyond the decibel pitch acceptable during evening hours. 

The DOT is okay with their reckless bike program and they refuse to compromise with us in relocating this bike station to a commercial property, a park, a vacant lot, a school, etc...all available spaces within this same vicinity. These spaces have wide sidewalks to place the bike station on which would keep both bikers and drivers happy, saving much needed parking space. 

The DOT should be defunded for their role in hurting residents on residential properties and causing chaos on our streets. They are pushing the Green New Deal, and trying desperately to get rid of cars. Communism in America.

...On Poetry and Fiction – Just “One Word” Away (If)

                 One word becomes one idea, becomes one sentence, becomes one poem, becomes one story. It must start from just “one word”. Today my one word is “If”.

                 “If” is a word unsure of itself; a word that is vulnerable, and leaves us uncertain and insecure. All we can do with the “Ifs” in our lives is “Be There” and hope for the best - Because if there is an “If” in our path, there will always be a “Then”.

"If"

 

If you speak, then I will listen

If you ask, then I will answer

If you want, then I will give you

If you need, then I will provide for you

If you hurt, then I will heal you

If you lead, then I will follow

If you reach out your hand to me

Then I will take it

 

If you hand me the moon

Then I will hand you the stars

If you give me a garden

Then I will nurture it forever

If you show me the ocean

Then I will gift you with seashells

If you dance in the moonlight

Then I will dance by your side

 

If you win, then I will cheer you

If you lose, then I will lift you

If you sing, then I will harmonize with you

If you look for me, then I will be there

If you sleep, then I will hold you

If you cry, then I will kiss your tears away

If you are frightened, then I will comfort you

If your heart is breaking, then I will mend it

 

If you laugh, then I will laugh alongside you

So whatever it is you need to do

Or whatever it is you need to say

Then I will be there…

But if you choose to leave and walk away

Then I will let you go

…If you choose to stay

Then I will be there …

 

If our youth becomes aged

Then I will buy us matching rockers

If our hair grows long and grey, then I will brush it

If our bones become feeble

Then I will buy us canes of gold

If we are overcome by thirst

Then I will provide the finest wine

If we ever hunger, then I will overload the pantry

 

If memories start to fade

Then I will resurrect old photos

If our clothes seem old and worn

Then I will cover us with richly-quilted blankets

If the seasons remind us of days gone by

Then we will sit by the window and enjoy the view

If you cannot sleep, then I will read to you

If you can no longer speak, then I will be your voice

 

If the image in the mirror frightens you

Then we will stare into that mirror as one

If you can no longer hear, then I will be your ears

If you can no longer see, then I will be your eyes

If your grin falls faint, then I will be your smile

If you truly love me, then I will love you tenfold

…If you take me for a fool, then I will stray far away from you -

 Never to look back again; as I whisper a last “goodbye”…
