PENDULUM

The Pendulum!
It swings back and forth
Our eyes follow it in trance-like stare
Hypnotized by the passing of time
Mesmerized by the secrets of the past
We can hear it speak
A syncopated rhythm
Familiar to our ears
We listen as it guides our stay
We listen as it leads the way
Never stopping, just swaying on
to an infinite beat of Past, Present and Future
It ticks by day
It ticks by night
It wakens us to morning light
It whispers a nocturnal lullaby
as we fall to slumber with little a fight
It welcomes all and plans their time
through careful steps and measured climb
The Pendulum!
With its sounds of glory
It creates and controls the human story
It lives on and on for days to come
It allows the passage of days that have gone
We revel in its pomp and circumstance
and leave its course to chance
The Pendulum!
It swings back and forth
until our very last dance…

FIRE

You stare into the fire and know not what you see
Just shadows of the past, where you were once free
Or amber lights in present, where Gods of Fire speak to Thee

Perhaps you see the future in its golden blaze
Or find yourself lost within its smoke-filled haze
It dances before you, adorned in orange hues
…A private audience singing the blues…

Your heart hums softly to its sizzling voice
Your soul responds to its seductive poise
Suddenly there is desire in its raging flare
You move closer to it, simply on a dare
It sees its reflection in your curious eyes
You see yourself melting within its guise

Your body jolts as you become undone
The fire enters you; you join as one
In heated passion it kisses your face
It covers your body like a fine lace
You feel like royalty touched by its glow
Enticed by mystery, so much to know

But it says good-bye while it slowly dies
Burning to ash as it hears your cries
You jump to your feet in disbelief
This Fire of Love has left you in grief
You strike a match and bring it to life
Again joined in marriage; as if Man and Wife

AUTUMN

Summer’s light has fallen dim
Fading within the Autumn hue
The vibrant fire within the spectrum
of colorful days, is born anew

We may shed a tear for sunny days
and yearn for balmy nights
But ‘tis the time to say goodbye
and welcome Autumn lights

Trees are singing nature’s song
bearing leaves of red and gold
Each falling from the biting wind
to the ground so rich and bold

Children come – Scampering through
this myriad of color
Crisp leaves crackling ‘neath their feet
as they chase and nudge each other

Smiling faces, hearts of joy
A Timeless Season for each girl and boy
Today an adventure of Autumn bliss
Tomorrow a memory they will surely miss

Yet Autumn calls out to one and all
Come feast upon its magical view!
An artist’s canvas, a sight to see
Explosions of rainbows; heaven’s brew

Apple picking, pumpkin patches
Sweet aromas in the air
Corn fields, scarecrows, country hikes
Dreams of Autumn everywhere

Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall
Autumn’s time to sing her song
Summer’s gone, Winter’s a ways
Yet Autumn’s here; Golden days

You can hear the Summer weep afar
in slumber ‘til next year
As the Winter lies in wait once more
allowing Autumn to appear

And that she does in rising force
Wearing the colors of her birth
She raises the flag of her ancestry
As we gasp in awe and mirth

The air is crisp, we hear her hum
Autumn tunes of regal sound
She breathes lustrous tints from nature’s palette;
Pigments of her soul abound

We answer to Autumn’s sweetest whisper
by frolicking in her domain
We seek shelter ‘neath her amber wings
where we may forever remain…

PORTRAIT

She was living on a wall
above a fireplace
in a strange house I had visited
A family house; part of an Estate

I walked past her, when our eyes locked
She was young
She was beautiful
She was mystifying

This Portrait of a stranger captivated me
I continued to stare
To stare deeply into her sparkling blue eyes
Eyes which held all of her secrets
– Was she smiling? Was she crying?
– Was she happy? Was she sad?
– Was she trying to tell me something?

I placed my hand upon hers
which she held below her chin
Her dark hair fell softly upon her shoulders
Her red lips anxious to speak
I felt electricity run through my body
She reached out to me
Reached out in a bizarre way
Yet I felt the connection –

She once lived in this house
Her Spirit echoed about…
and although youthful in the Portrait
and ageless in my mind,
She was as old as this stately abode

Then suddenly “he” crept up behind me;
A distant cousin I had recently met
He tapped my shoulder with his hand
and introduced me to her –
“This is your Great Grandmother”

…Our eyes locked once again –
Yet, this time, she smiled back at me
and I felt our hearts beat as one…

WIND

Whistling, howling, swirling through
His meandering fingers violating you
He blows into your ear and taps upon your nose
Then harshly whispers of life’s pleasures and woes

He messes your hair with both love and lust
He shoves you fiercely with an almighty thrust
You aim to outrun his prowling charm
As he kisses you with his chilling calm

He captures you ‘neath the sun’s soft glow
While your footsteps ease, upon the fallen snow
You lose your step and fall to your knees
He toys with you wildly, under watchful trees

He possesses you with his clever embrace
You fight to see this predator’s face
But your eyes are blind to this obscured force
Who straddles you mightily, with no remorse

You rise to your feet, disheveled and cold
He tears at your clothes; pulls at every fold
Your hood is dangling in disarray
You run in fright, but can’t get away

Cars are passing, throngs of people laughing
You wonder why no one offers a hand
You keep on running, for he is quite cunning
He is Huge, he is Dominant and enticingly Grand

You turn ‘round to see him, with every step
But he is surely nowhere, e’er to be found
Yet he tugs at your arm, and pulls at your hair
And, once again, forces you to the solid, hard ground

Your shoes fall off, but you care not
For your home can be seen down the path
You make a “marathon run” for your lovely front door
As he is now caught up in YOUR vengeful wrath

So barefoot are you, as you reach your abode
The home fires burning inside
The ice on the ground stings your bare feet
But you are safe while he runs off to hide

You slip your key in your “home-sweet-home” door
Your poor knees – they are painfully skinned
Embarrassed – you smile, hiding your shame
For “HE” was simply the notorious Wind…
