One word becomes one idea, becomes one sentence, becomes one poem, becomes one story. It must start from just “one word”. Today my one word is “Memories”.
Memories are life’s pleasures and woes which belong only to us. We tuck them away in a secret place in our mind where we can visit at any time. Whether we choose to share our memories with others, is a personal choice. The beauty of memories is that we can make them any time, any day, anywhere - or every time, every day and everywhere. We can hide them, or share them, but they will always be protected in our “secret” place.
Memories
A Secret place in our mind
Where laughter and tears may leave us blind
Where love and hope be e’er so kind
Standing up front, or far behind
Images on stamplessed postcards, left in disarray
To recall at will, one by one, on any given day
A dated mystery in their prime
Tacked to cork boards for a later time
Perhaps in the quiet of the evening chime
Sipping silently, a glass of fine wine
Sorting through those Memories of mine
Smiles and frowns tucked away
Family and friends, some here to stay
Others gone, by light of day
All of them well, I hope and pray
Love or loss; always fair game
People and things ne’er stay the same
Grateful for the opportunity to see it all
To know it, cherish it, to answer its call
Memories of childhood and happy faces
Memories of visits to stunning places
Like a photo album in one’s mind
Recalling in detail; a priceless find
From youthful bliss to each golden year
Fragmented Memories reappear
Flipping through faded pages of time
In my secret place; so sublime
I hear the echoes of days gone by
I know the truth and not the lie
For Memories are facts we cannot deny
There is always an answer to the question of Why?
Each new day brings gifts galore
Within our reach, as we long for more
Gifts of Memories for our mind’s eye
Memories that shine like stars in the sky
Tangible Memories that will never die…
NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR:
Memories are like old photographs and images on stamplessed post cards, tucked away in the corners of our mind. They exist so we may call upon them at any time. As we make new memories, we add them to the magical collection that can be seen only through our mind's eye; simply ready to share or ready to become our next secret.
