Love them or leave them; it was so bittersweet... Back in the day, we chose to love them, as we raced home from school to catch episodes of "Dark Shadows" (1966 - 1971).

It was truly bitter to watch Barnabas the Vampire, Quentin the Werewolf and Angelique the Witch, wreak havoc in Collinwood. They frightened, killed and destroyed lives. However, it was sweet to know that Barnabas and Quentin deeply hated what/who they were, what they were capable of - and what they actually did to the innocent.

So, we embraced both these men and showed compassion to two wonderful gentlemen who transformed into monsters by no fault of their own. We loved them and supported them for who they were because we understood their predicaments. They were cursed and forced to live a life of horror. Angelique put the "Vampire" curse on Barnabas because she "loved" him (Ha!Ha!Ha!), while Magda the Gypsy put the "Werewolf" curse on Quentin because she "loathed" him.

...Now, on the other hand, we embraced Angelique for her beauty, her intelligence and her haunting essence - However, she was cunning, bitterly ruthless, and horribly cold. Whether she performed her spells for good (which was quite rare) - or for evil (which was quite often) - or if she placed/removed curses from her victims ... she did it all for self-serving reasons only ... and she loved that control ... she loved every minute of her wicked ways. She loved the hurt, pain and suffering she caused and continued to do it with laughter.

I continue to enjoy watching the entire Dark Shadows series, from beginning to end, in the here and now of 2022, because retirement allows me to do so. Back in 1966, school days got in the way. Well not this time (lol). Today, I am very happy and willing to transcend to the past, present and future with every Dark Shadows character, through this chilling gothic soap opera. It is supernatural, it is magical, and it is absolutely fabulous. You must try it. It is certainly an adventure and a memorable journey.
