...On Poetry and Fiction – Just “One Word” Away (Wind)

http://spillwords.com/author/phyllispcolucci/

One word becomes one idea, becomes one sentence, becomes one poem, becomes one story. It must start from just “one word”. Today my one word is “Wind”.

                                                              WIND

That notorious force will hit upon you with such strength that you may think someone is after you. It will push you, pull you, tear at your clothes, and send your hair flying in knots. You will hold your coat down, pull your hair back, wipe the tears from your eyes, and run home as quickly as you can. It will whistle, it will howl, and swirl you about, as you struggle to remain on your feet. Just keep running, get out of its way and head straight for your front door. Leave it behind as you enter your house – and just know it was simply the “Wind”.

                         WIND

Whistling, howling, swirling through

His meandering fingers violating you

He blows into your ear and taps upon your nose

Then harshly whispers of life’s pleasures and woes

He messes your hair with both love and lust

He shoves you fiercely with an almighty thrust

You aim to outrun his prowling charm

As he kisses you with his chilling calm

He captures you ‘neath the sun’s soft glow

While your footsteps ease, upon the fallen snow

You lose your step and fall to your knees

He toys with you wildly, under watchful trees

He possesses you with his clever embrace

You fight to see this predator’s face

But your eyes are blind to this obscured force

Who straddles you mightily, with no remorse

You rise to your feet, disheveled and cold

He tears at your clothes; pulls at every fold

Your hood is dangling in disarray

You run in fright, but can’t get away

Cars are passing, throngs of people laughing

You wonder why no one offers a hand

You keep on running, for he is quite cunning

He is Huge, he is Dominant and enticingly Grand

You turn ‘round to see him, with every step

But he is surely nowhere, e’er to be found

Yet he tugs at your arm, and pulls at your hair

And, once again, forces you to the solid, hard ground

Your shoes fall off, but you care not

For your home can be seen down the path

You make a “marathon run” for your lovely front door

As he is now caught up in YOUR vengeful wrath

So barefoot are you, as you reach your abode

The home fires burning inside

The ice on the ground stings your bare feet

But you are safe while he runs off to hide

You slip your key in your “home-sweet-home” door

Your poor knees - they are painfully skinned

Embarrassed – you smile, hiding your shame

For “HE” was simply the notorious Wind…

...On Poetry and Fiction - Just "One Word" Away (Life)

http://spillwords.com/author/phyllispcolucci/

https://www.amazon.com/Phyllis-P.-Colucci/e/B00VMU8B44

One word becomes one idea, becomes one sentence, becomes one poem, becomes one story. It must start from just “one word”. Today my one word is “Life”.

                                                                          Life

“Life” assures us that the day will begin and the day will end; and it will take us on journeys where we may experience every emotion, every feeling, every happening, every person, and any and every place imaginable. We will explore all of life’s pleasures, treasures, blessings, highs, lows - its loves, its tragedies, its happiness, its sadness; all through every one of our senses. We must move with it as life continues to push and guide us along the way. There is no other way to live life than to feel it and embrace it to the fullest. Embrace all of it. The positives will make us the happiest, the negatives will make us the saddest; but the blessings will make us the strongest.

                 LIFE

As assured as the day begins
As certain as the night appears
As clear as the sky is blue
As true as the passing years

As blessed as the birth of a baby
As sweet as the breath of a child
As tender as the warmth of the sun
As strong as the sea is wild

As soft as nature’s music
As loving as the heart of joy
As bright as the glowing halo
As playful as the girl and boy

As untamed as the prowling wolf
As pure as the nugget of gold
As stunning as the Rembrandt
As chilling as the Winter’s cold

As deep as the emotions of love
As mystifying as the clown’s face
As sad as the pain of a loss
As calming as the crackling fireplace

As disturbing as bleak dark shadows
As blinding as the sand storm
As loving as the warm embrace
As fresh as the sudden new morn

As charming as the handsome gent
As enchanting as the lion’s eyes
As innocent as the maiden’s smile
As evil as the grim and harsh lies

So relevant, so versatile
to the journey we call “Life”
Filled with good, bad, and ugliness
Strengthened by both peace and strife

Time carries us upon its wings
For “Life” is what we live each day
We cry, we laugh, we sing, we dance
while “Life” simply guides us along the way!

"Christmas Magic"

Christmas Magic

Snowflakes falling; friends are calling

Ol’ Man Winter has donned a new suit…

‘Tis his Seasonal color of Regal Red and Bright White

A beard, a pipe, a sparkling delight

A nip in the air, hearts fully aware

A new Christmas visit, with vigor and might

Holiday wreaths - they hang in full bloom

While Christmas trees bask ‘neath the magical moon

The Carolers sing a heartwarming tune

Warm Holiday cheer arrives ne’er too soon

All houses decorated with holly and lights

Young children giggling, eyeing the sights

Dear family pets nestled indoors

The fireplace crackling

Soon cookies and smores

Snowmen standing in every front yard

Mailboxes flowing with card after card

Parents frolicking ‘neath their tree

Wrapping kids’ toys with passion and glee

Sleigh bells heard from far and away

‘Tis the start of the season with each coming day

Church bells toll loudly from morning ‘til night

Reminding All people of Christ’s guiding light

Christmas will come, and Christmas will go

Sweet Christmas will bequeath its Holy glow;

Until its return upon Father Time’s wings

As the magic of Christmas rises and sings

…One never ending memory

of a time long ago…

Where a Savior was born for the world to know!

...On Poetry and Fiction – Just “One Word” Away (Insanity)

http://spillwords.com/author/phyllispcolucci/

https://www.amazon.com/Phyllis-P.-Colucci/e/B00VMU8B44

One word becomes one idea, becomes one sentence, becomes one poem, becomes one story. It must start from just “one word”. Today my one word is “Insanity”.

INSANITY

Majestic doors of ebony and gold

     exude enormous wealth

To walk past, without a second look

is for sure a hint of stealth

Yet like a magnet, your head does turn

     toward the ebony and gold

In reverie you do declare

     their beauty grand and bold

They open wide to welcome you

     In awe you step inside

They slam shut as your heart jolts

Your soft voice full of chide

Loud music, chaos, dancing fools

     You turn to run away

The door is locked, you can’t escape

You fear you’re there to stay

“Insanity” beyond the doors

     Will surely have its way!

Echoes of this pseudo-bliss

     excite your ears and mind

You smile at all the characters

     Yet, the macabre is unkind

You may be fooled, past the ebony and gold

     Yet your heart beats unaligned

A foreign world has captured you

     - Harlequins abound!

With the great escape in your mind’s eye

     You chase that deafening sound

Towards those doors, of ebony and gold

     Your body twirls around

You move with the speed of a Cheetah

     For your goal is homeward-bound

So faster you go through the open doors

     Each careful step, a gain

The rage in you pushes forth

to the world of the pure and sane!

NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR:

"Insanity" is a journey we have all taken, into a world we had no plans on visiting. Once we are there, we must learn to call upon our logic and reason to get us back home - to the world of the sane...Upon our return home, it is then we may realize just how vulnerable the human mind is.

Welcome to a Little History in Greenpoint Brooklyn (An Amazing House/Mansion Still Standing)

This amazing structure at 137 Oak Street, Greenpoint Brooklyn, amazes me every time I pass it. Wish I could tour the inside. It's both creepy and beautiful...I took a photo yesterday (September 16, 2020) because I noticed a "Haunted" sign was placed on the property along with a "Keep Out" sign as well. Please see links below and read some great info, a great story, and some interesting history on this house and property. Enjoy my photos as well...Then you decide if possibly there may be some past souls still lingering there. It sure seems that way...

"The Great Pumpkin Ride" (13 Days of Halloween Theme 2020 / Spillwords Press / Spillwords.com)

THE GREAT PUMPKIN RIDE

The Midnight Ride on Halloween

could not compare to Paul Revere;

There was no warning of what was to come,

for The Great Pumpkin was already here!

Warlock “Blaise” - He cheered at the reins,

while most townsfolk were still fast asleep;

His Great Pumpkin rolled in, on cast iron wheels,

through dead silence, not even a peep

Suddenly, all of the mayhem broke loose

It forced the townsfolk up on their feet

From beds to windows, they did peer out

- Was this a trick, or was this a treat?

When Warlock “Blaise” fiercely pulled on the reins,

The Great Pumpkin slowed down his pace…

He popped up his stem and opened his top -

Laying fear on everyone’s face

Out of the Pumpkin, they came one by one…

The Ghosts, the Goblins, the Witches of the Night!

They danced and screeched in the quiet streets,

casting huge shadows by each window’s light

The townsfolk hid behind closed doors,

as each Witch rode past on a broom

The eerie and wicked Halloween crew

cast spells of Halloween doom

There were Spiders and Skeletons lurking about

The Witches left foul brew at each door

Warlock “Blaise” rose to his feet, sang a devilish tune,

but the townsfolk couldn’t take anymore!

They ran for their ammo and loaded their guns

All windows were opened full wide

They shot at the Ghosts, Goblins, Witches galore

and smiled as each fell - with pride!

‘Twas the “young” Warlock’s time to meet his fate,

as he cowered behind The Great Pumpkin’s shield

But someone shot him, straight through the heart;

- and “Blaise” died on his own battlefield.

The Great Pumpkin rode off, on his cast iron wheels -

He left his sinful friends dead in the street

He rode out of town, without looking back,

and unwillingly claimed defeat

The townsfolk came out of their homes with glee,

and burned all the evil that fell in their way

They took back their streets, on this Halloween night,

as "The Great Pumpkin Ride" faded by day!

- by Phyllis P. Colucci

The next time a Warlock-driven Pumpkin rides into your town, be prepared at your windows to take them down. Do not wait to see if it's a "trick or a treat", because you may be the one unwillingly claiming defeat!!!

A Happy Halloween to All...Enjoy the treats - not the tricks...Ha! Ha!
